If you aren’t sure what I mean when I say blood sugar, start here!
Managing your blood sugar is a KEY piece to supporting your everyday health & long-term health. It creates a domino effect on your hormone health, sleep, energy, clear or foggy head, and so much more.
Here are 3 simple ways you can incorporate blood sugar balance into your every day.
1. Eating the FabFour
Protein. Fats. Fiber. and Greens. The FabFour was coined by nutritionist and health coach Kelly Leveque for the secret to balancing your blood sugar. The FabFour are the essentials for any meal to give your body what it needs AND balance your blood sugar. Having a meal or snack that checks all of those off will give your body a meal that provides energy, nourishment, and satisfaction while stabilizing blood sugar.
ex: Take a Mexican bowl for dinner. Ground chicken of beef (protein), black beans and fajita veggies (fiber), topped with avocado (fat) over a bed of arugula or spinach (greens). Its that simple!
2. Eat a savory breakfast
You’ve probably heard before breakfast is the most important meal of the day…well it's true! Breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day. Having a savory breakfast keeps you off the blood sugar rollercoaster from the beginning. Instead of having a carb-heavy/sugary breakfast that shoots your glucose right up OR skipping breakfast all together leading your blood sugar to plummet while cortisol shoots up - start with something savory. Incorporating the FabFour is always a great place to start!
Some of my client’s favorites (& mine too) are avocado toast, an egg scramble, a Fabfour smoothie, or hard-boiled eggs paired with greek yogurt & berries.
3. Moving after meals
When you eat, you are giving your body energy to use! By adding in some light movement after you eat, you give your body a place to send the glucose and energy you just consumed. This keeps the glucose from being stored as fat for energy later. It doesn’t have to mean you work out after everything you eat. This will help you from feeling that food coma after too!
Take a walk around the block for 10 minutes, have a dance party to your 3 favorite songs, or do a set of 20 push-ups/20 squats/and 20 jumping jacks 2 or 3 times through.
Pick one to start with & see how it impacts your energy! Which one will you start with?
